One Last Twelve Pack BaRack

Packing up the workshop I realized that this may be the last time, for a while, that I'd be able to sit and melt some brass for a while, so I decided to make one last BaRack. This one is about the same size as the one made for Pete, which makes sense for up to twelve bottles of beer. Two sixers or one twelve pack of your favorite brew fits nicely. Oak deck, tubes plugged with cork, and a flat and narrow bar finish it off.

Hanging up to the torch for a while...

It's been a tumultuous few months here in Albuquerque, but I'm excited to say that I'll be hitting the road for a while. I've accepted a new position with a company putting on some of the most exciting bicycle races in America. What's the gig? Well, for now I'll keep that a mystery, but if you're interested in reading about my adventures, you can do so here. I'll keep this one up for a while, to post any bike related stuff, but in all likelihood won't be posting any new photos of any racks, bikes, etc. that I have made until fall, when I have the opportunity to set up a new shop.

It'll be a sad week here in ABQ, shutting down the workshop, but it's off to bigger and better things, in bigger and better places. Thanks for reading.

Another BaRack

Kathryn started practicing in the Acupuncture Clinic this semester, and the kit she needs to carry to and from school really doesn't fit well on any of her bikes, so I made one especially for her kit. Needs finishing, and it weighs more than I'd like (with the wood inlay) but it's very stiff and fits on the Belleville well.

Kat's Bamboo

Finally had a free afternoon and all of the parts around the garage to finish up Kathryn's Bamboo Bike. It ended up being a 19.5 lb single speed - not too shabby for any material. Parts were all salvaged from other projects: Bontrager bar / stem / seat / track wheels. Salsa seatpost and collar. Shimano brakes with Paul levers. Blue King headset (this thing has been on three bikes now). I'm impressed by how it rides - smooth without being flexy, like a carbon bike before the days of really stiff bottom brackets and tapered headtubes. And it sure is pretty.

The Jig is UP!

After a long wait I finally got the jig off the ground. Huge thanks to Pete for gifting me his park workstand to mount it to. He had to ship it all the way from Maine, so the getting the heavy metal base shipped all the way to Mexico 2.0 was out of the question. Instead I made a (crude) base out of 2" square tubing - not pretty but it does the trick.

The workshop is coming along well. Starting to move some older bikes in. Now it's time to start making some new ones.
